Shifting Cannabis Science from Botany to Neuroscience: From Bud to Brain
Tuesday, June 6 at 4:00 PM (PDT)
Speaker: Timmen Cermak, MD
Planners: Amy de la Garza, MD & Spencer Hansen, MD
CME: 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™
Overview
In a sweeping overview of cannabis science, Dr. Cermak integrates bench research into practical treatment. He condenses basic science about the brain’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS), explains how too frequent cannabis impacts the ECS to cause measurable cognitive and emotional changes, and then provides tips on how this information can be used to develop meaningful conversations with cannabis users. Webinar participants will understand how basic science connects to clinically relevant signs and symptoms and how the art of treatment can use science-based motivational interviewing to explore the values underlying cannabis use.

This webinar is co-sponsored by the Utah Society of Addiction Medicine.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
1. Identify early warning signs of cannabis overuse.
2. Describe the endocannabinoid system and the impact of cannabis overuse.
3. Select appropriate opportunities to utilize motivational interviewing to discuss cannabis use with patients.
