Effective Strategies for Treating Pain and Addiction

More effective strategies for managing pain are necessary in light of recent increases in prescription drug misuse across the country. This course will cover strategies for office-based assessment of pain
and addiction liability, important considerations for treating pain and methods to monitor for the emergence of addictive behaviors during treatment. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain
management for patients known to have substance abuse concerns will be addressed including up-to-date information on buprenorphine and methadone. The focus of this presentation will be therapeutic
strategies to improve care of these most challenging patients.
